Annie Mae sat in front of her picture window. Every minute of every
day was devoted to sitting in front of her picture window staring out
into the small wooded area in back of her house. For over 18 months
nearly all she has done is stare out her picture window. She
disconnected her phone. She no longer watches television or listens to
the radio. She no longer subscribes to magazines or newspapers. All she
eats is breakfast cereal. She does not clean her house which has become
loaded with dust and dirt. She never leaves the house. She avoids
contact with anyone. She never reads her mail. She never answers the
door unless she sees a law enforcement patrol car in the driveway which
has happened only once in the last eighteen months. Annie Mae can even
slip out of her current reality and back into a time before the tragic
The reason Annie Mae is like she is stems from the accident that took
the life of her husband and two sons. There was a head-on collision
caused by a drunk driver driving a large SUV. The SUV slammed head-on
into the small car carrying Annie Mae's husband and two sons. Her
husband and two sons died immediately in the crash. In large measure, so
did Annie Mae. Annie Mae's current, almost vegetative state, began when
she was told the news about the accident.
Although Annie Mae does not know it, she has a guardian angel named
Infinity44471. Infinity44471 is not the real name of Annie Mae's
guardian angel but since humans cannot pronounce the real name of angels
like the names are pronounced in the heavenly realms, Infinity44471 will
have to do.
Infinity44471 was becoming increasingly concerned with Annie Mae's
state. One of Infinity44471's problems was Annie Mae had cut herself off
from the outside world to such an extent intervention seemed to be
impossible under normal ways of intervening in a human being's life.
Infinity44471 met with the angelic council and brought to the council's
attention the case of Annie Mae. The head of the council, an angel named
LightPath888822 addressed the issue of Annie Mae and said to
Infinity44471, "I have an angel in the outer reaches who may be
able to help in this circumstance. The angel I have in mind is called
The Wild Man. The Wild Man can produce some amazing results. I have seen
The Wild Man intervene when no other modes of intervention would work.
You have to understand some things about The Wild Man. The Wild Man is
not like us. How he joined our angelic band is known only to God, but
The Wild Man can often do what those of us regular angels cannot do. The
Wild Man has a specialty. The Wild Man's specialty is animals. The Wild
Man can do literally anything with animals. Therefore, I will call upon
The Wild Man to see if he can intervene for Annie Mae. I want you to
remember, The Wild Man is not like us. In fact, The Wild Man is more
like, uh, more like an animal, than us. The Wild Man likes to growl a
lot." At this remark, the council of angels broke out into laughter
full of hopeful anticipation.
In an instant, The Wild Man appeared before Infinity44471 and The
Wild Man gave a hearty growl which in turn produced more laughter among
the assembled throng of angels. The Wild Man spoke and said, "I
love to growl. However, I know why I have been summoned here and I know
about Annie Mae. We need to snap Annie Mae out of her vegetative state.
We need to bring a little show time into her life. For Annie Mae, I have
a special show all ready to go."
At this, Infinity44471 spoke. "Thank you, Wild Man, I appreciate
your input. One of the problems I have been having with Annie Mae is the
darkness power hanging over her. Every time I have tried to produce an
event or circumstance to help Annie Mae, the darkness power pushes her
down, blinds her, and kills off her spirit. As someone experienced in
dealing with difficult situations what can you do about the darkness
power?" The Wild Man roared out a vicious growl which brought no
laughter this time and said, "No dark power can fool with me. Any
dark power trying to fool with me will be eaten alive or eaten dead
whichever way the dark power wants it. They don't call me The Wild Man
for nothing! Tomorrow the show begins!"
Tomorrow arrived. Every day and every night blended into one another
for Annie Mae. Annie Mae never left the picture window. Even at night,
she slept in her chair next to the window.
On this day, on this special day when the show was about to begin,
Annie Mae woke up to chirping birds but Annie Mae did not hear the birds
for Annie Mae was consumed and possessed by her grief. However, in clear
sight of where Annie Mae sat, out on the edge of her lawn, just where a
wooded area began, walked a large momma raccoon and three baby raccoons.
Annie Mae noticed. For the first time in eighteen months, Annie Mae
noticed something. Annie Mae's eyes never left the four raccoons until
the animals had walked behind some trees and disappeared.
As an observer, Infinity44471 said to The Wild Man, "Listen, I
see Annie Mae noticed, but where is the show? That is no show. Four
animals walking across someone's property? Where is the show? Where is
the dancing animal thing? Where is the animals-doing-tricks thing?"
The Wild Man replied, "Please, you have to be patient. In doing my
work, I only do the minimum in the beginning because of regulations. If
the minimum does not work, we will do a little more. We'll see what
Tomorrow came. Annie Mae woke up to chirping birds but, like always,
she did not notice. However, at about the time she saw the raccoons
yesterday, she began to look for them again. On time and on cue, here
the raccoons came again. All four raccoons, momma and the three little
ones walked across the lawn in full view of Annie Mae's picture window.
Annie Mae followed every move. As the animals neared the trees where
they would no longer be seen, Annie Mae moved forward in her chair to
get a last look at momma and the three little ones.
Infinity44471 then said to Wild Man, "I saw Annie Mae lean
forward. Maybe we are making progress." Wild Man replied, "We
need to wait. The job has only begun."
The next day brought out the animal show and the next day after that
brought out the animal show again. However, by the sixth day, the
darkness power had numbed Annie Mae and her heart to the raccoons
appearing each day.
The Wild Man had anticipated a relapse by Annie Mae. So the next day,
things got a little more interesting during the animal show time. On
this day, the baby raccoons began to scamper about. So much so the momma
raccoon had to chase after them, grab them by the neck, and drag them
across the yard. The little ones were appearing to be unruly and
uncontrollable. The little ones were beginning to stage a wrestling
match with each other in front of Annie Mae's window. At all this new
fuss on the lawn, Annie Mae smiled. She did not realize she smiled, but
smiled she did. As the momma raccoon and the little ones disappeared
into the woods, Annie Mae even caught herself wondering about what the
show would be like tomorrow.
Infinity44471 observed and spoke to the Wild Man, "Wow, we are
making progress. She smiled and thought about the future. Great progress
indeed." The Wild Man replied, "Well, I would hope we could
continue but the dark power is already trying to kill the progress, so
we have our work cut out for us.
The next day arrived but on this day there was a terrible storm. The
wind blew, the rain fell in torrents, dead leaves and debris were blown
about, tree limbs bowed and some ever broke from the force of the wind.
Lightning and thunder pierced the air. On this day there was no animal
show. Annie Mae fell back into her vegetative state. The dark power had
won this round. The next three days brought the same kind of weather
with no animal show. Annie Mae once again became more and more
Infinity44471 spoke to the Wild Man and said, "We have a problem
here. Is there anything you can do" The Wild Man noted that much of
their progress had been wiped out. However, The Wild Man was not done.
The Wild Man said, "OK, if the dark power wants to bring in bad
weather, we are going to get up close and personal with the show."
The next day arrived with the same terrible weather. The day brought
a downpour and now flooding. The yard and wooded area of Annie Mae's
property were flooded. So there was no way to put on any kind of animal
show. The Wild Man, remarked to Infinity44471, "You know, I am
really getting upset with what the dark power is doing. The dark power
is violating regulations and I am really, really, really steamed.
Believe me, you do not want me steamed! When you get The Wild Man
steamed, look out!"
Annie Mae was as she always was. So numb was Annie Mae, she had
nearly forgotten about the animal visitors. As the rains poured down, on
the extra wide window sill on the outside of her house, the very wide
window sill on the very picture window in front of which Annie Mae had
sat for eighteen months, walked the three baby raccoons without the
momma. On the wide window sill, in the center of the window, the three
babies, shaking from the cold and dripping with water, stood motionless.
Annie Mae didn't just notice this time. Annie Mae felt. Annie Mae felt
compassion. Annie Mae had thoughts. Annie Mae had thoughts about the
missing momma and the poor little ones. The little raccoons stayed on
the window sill for at least an hour, shaking and shivering all the
while. The longer the little ones stayed, the more agitated and anxious
Annie Mae became. Finally, with tears rolling down her cheeks, tears
rolling down her cheeks for the first time since the accident, Annie Mae
thought, "I have to do something." At this thought, Annie Mae
grabbed a raincoat, bounded out the door, waded through ice cold flood
water, and scooped up the three little raccoons, and brought them inside
her house. Suddenly, Annie's world had changed. She started talking to
the three little raccoons as if they were little children, tears still
streaming down her cheeks. Annie Mae even started worrying…worrying
about what she was going to feed them and how she was going to keep
Infinity44471 said to The Wild Man, "Thank you. Even though
thank you is not enough, thank you. It appears your work is done. What a
great job you did." The Wild Man replied, "No problem. But my
work isn't done. I want to stay around and really bring some big time
animal shows and animal chaos into Annie Mae's life. She needs the
animal chaos to start healing and living again. Just to give you a
preview. See that chair where Annie Mae sat for eighteen months? Well,
it is now filled with three baby raccoons crawling all over it, getting
it wet from the rain, and making Annie Mae laugh. But I'm not done. As
time goes by, Annie Mae is going to eventually want to pull her hair out
over these little creatures running around in her house, but she'll have
a barrel of laughs in the process and she'll start to live again."
Epilogue: It's just a story, isn't it? It is just a made up story at
that, isn't it? Things don't really happen like this, do they? Well, for
you skeptics who do not believe in angels, or miracles, or God, go on
and be skeptical and never believe in angels, or miracles, or how God
can work in a person's life in unseen ways. However, for those of us who
do believe or even know, we know everyone has a guardian angel…a
guardian angel who does a lot more than just stand back and watch.
Rev. 22:8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I
had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel
which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it
not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and
of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. (KJV)
